Collagen is the most common protein in the body.  In our bodies, collagen is mainly found in connective tissue where it makes up the majority of the extracellular matrix (ECM). Fibroblasts produce collagen, for which certain amino acids are needed. Collagen is mainly composed of glycine (33%), proline (12%) and hydroxyproline (10%).

Along with other components, collagen forms a structure around the cells (ECM) and is therefore classified as a structural protein. It is important for the adhesion of the body structures (“colla” = glue) and forms a kind of rope structure which is 300 times denser than muscle fibers. The strength of ligaments and tendons, the flexibility of bones and joints or the pressure resistance of your joint cartilages are all determined by the collagen in your body.

The water retention by collagen (along with hyaluronic acid) ensures firmness and tautness of the tissue which is why collagen is essential for firm skin. Collagen is therefore also important for the elasticity of tissues and their regeneration.

From your 20s onwards, the body’s collagen production decreases. Environmental influences such as stress, chronic diseases, unhealthy nutrition or smoking also have a negative effect on collagen production. This has severe consequences for the condition of skin, bones, joints, tendons and ligaments.

By taking hydrolyzed collagen with a low molecular weight (such as COLLAMIN) the body’s own collagen structures can be restored and supported. It reaches the cells in the bloodstream in around 2 hours and is distributed throughout the whole body. In the long-term, collagen-containing tissues will be maintained, the skin structure improved, the immune system supported and the discomfort in bones and joints reduced.
